Ukraine to regulate feed for export to Europe

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of a new convocation will consider a draft law "On the Fodder," to regulate the production, circulation and sale of safe and qualitative feed stuff for European exports.

The press service of the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry informs that the document proposes tougher control over observation of the law in the sphere of production control and circulation and the sale of the feed stuff, in particular, imposing penalties on violators. Currently, discussion of the draft law is underway, which will stimulate production of safe and qualitative feeding stuff and animal products for European exports.

"Adoption of the law was dictated by the necessity of harmonisation of the Ukrainian law with the EU legislation for ensuring security and hygiene of the feed stuf. National feed manufacturers will be on equal terms with EU producing countries, where receipt of an exploitation permit is introduced for production of certain feed stuffs or feed additives and mandatory certification of products is not necessary. Otherwise, export of the feed stuf is impossible to the EU market," the ministry notes.

The experts remind that until now, the issue of production, export, import, use, packaging, marking, transportation, storage and putting into circulation of the feed stuffing and feeding raw materials, the basis of ensuring their quality and safety is not dictated by a special law. Therefore, both manufacturers and consumers of those products are not protected by the law from poor quality and dangerous raw materials and products.
